FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

RSTEC GAINS NEW MEMBERS

MCALLEN, Jan. 3 - Rio South Texas Economic Council (RSTEC) is a public/private non-profit organization of local governments, economic development organizations, Chambers of Commerce, and private enterprises in Hidalgo, Cameron, Starr, and Willacy counties. A main objective of the organization is to organize regional marketing efforts. RSTEC also develops strategies for regional economic development, and provides education and training to its members for the purpose of strengthening community economic development efforts.

This past quarter RSTEC welcomed the City of Alton Development Corporation (CADC) and Penitas Economic Development Corporation to its growing list of members.

Alton, once considered a sleepy little town north of Mission, has over 12,000 residents, according to the 2010 US Census. The city has some big plans for new infrastructure and new municipal facilities. City leaders also want to encourage new business growth to meet the demands of its growing population.

Steve Pena, Assistant City Manager for Alton said, “We joined RSTEC to take advantage of
their marketing efforts. As a small community, we have limited resources for business attraction. Through RSTEC, we can leverage our resources. We can participate with RSTEC in international trade shows, site selection visits, and have access to professionally-developed marketing materials. We couldn’t do that on our own, but together we can do so much more.”

Like Alton, Penitas is also making plans for new infrastructure projects as well as working on the creation of new roadways. Located just west of Mission, this community continues to outperform most other cities in the region in population growth, and offers several opportunities for entrepreneurs and investors.

“Rio South Texas Economic Council has a solid foundation of leaders working together to promote the region,” says Oscar Cuellar, CFO for The City of Penitas. “As Penitas continues to grow, we wanted to be a part of a team leading the business recruitment arena in the four county region. RSTEC has demonstrated that it can develop new leads for its members. RSTEC has also given members opportunities to expand our knowledge base, network with other economic development professional, and promote the region's assets.”

The Rio South Texas Economic Council has brought together the region’s Economic Development organizations with a unified, clear vision focused on fostering expansion and relocation efforts by companies seeking an attractive business environment, and furthering educational opportunities to boost the area.
