Rio South Texas is growing at a phenomenal pace. Job growth has outpaced that of the state, and by 2012, the projected employment growth rate in the McAllen-Mission-Edinburg MSA is estimated at about 38.5 percent, compared with the state's mere 25 percent rate.
Private investment in the region is strong, too, as evidenced by the continued issuing of residential and commercial permits. While the nationwide recession has touched Rio South Texas, the region continues to post job gains.
Income levels of local residents are on the rise in Rio South Texas, as are homeownership rates. The unemployment rate in the region has improved dramatically in past years.
College enrollment rates continue to climb and more advanced degree programs and research and development programs are taking hold. A medical school is even planned for the year 2015.
