The Port will be opening its doors to the public on May 13, 2011 and will also be hosting events on May 14, and May 21, 2011. This marks the first time since September 11, 2001 that the Port’s doors will be open to the public. All events will be held at the Port of Brownsville and entry to the events must be through the main gate.
The first ever Rio Grande Valley Maritime Security Consortium, held at the Ringgold Park Pavillion, will be hosted by the Port of Browsville during the 2010 Rio Grande Valley Security Cooperative from December 13 - 15.

All Star Metals LLC, a ship recycler located at the Port of Brownsville, has received the Voluntary Protection Programs Award (VPP) from the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA). They are the first and only ship recycling yard in the world to hold this award.
The Port of Brownsville and Port Manatee, Florida have been awarded $3.34 million for enhancements to their Marine Highway Operation by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
